Halloween has been iconic in Hong Kong for a while, but not just in trick-or-treating, scary movies and a bowl of sweets by the front door kind of way.
Its gotten so iconic that the Hong Kong Tourism Board now has just announced October as Hong Kong Halloween Month and LKF is here for it!
From themed dinners and elaborate costumes to pop-up parties, cocktails, DJs and cosplay street celebrations, Halloween has gone citywide all month long. And while more and more of the city is getting in on the action, there is one place that has been doing Halloween for decades: Lan Kwai Fong.
Halloween Takes Over Hong Kong
It might be hard to imagine now, but Halloween was once a relatively niche celebration in Hong Kong.
Decades ago, Lan Kwai Fong’s Halloween celebrations began as a much smaller gathering, initially attracting mostly expat residents. As the years passed, more local Hongkongers joined in, and the tradition grew into something much bigger.
According to Lan Kwai Fong Group’s Founder and Chairman, Dr. Allan Zeman, the transformation happened gradually: each year, more people dressed up until Halloween became a major part of Hong Kong’s social calendar. Today, Halloween feels less like a single evening and more like a season.
From Costume Party to City-Wide Phenomenon
What makes Halloween in Hong Kong so much fun is that there is no single way to celebrate it.
You might spend the evening at a themed restaurant, head to a cocktail bar for a Halloween special, catch a DJ set or simply dress up with your friends and see where the night takes you. The city's Halloween scene has also become increasingly creative. I
And then there is the cosplay…

Why Everyone Loves Dressing Up
Let's be honest: half the fun is deciding who—or what—you are going to be for Halloween.
Halloween gives everyone an excuse to become someone else for a few hours. Go glamorous, go terrifying, go completely ridiculous or coordinate a group costume with your friends.
The best costumes are not necessarily the most complicated. Sometimes a clever idea, a few accessories and a little confidence are all you need. Case in point below.
Why LKF Is Still the Place to Be
With Halloween parties now happening all over Hong Kong, there are plenty of options. But there is something different about celebrating Halloween in the place that helped make the tradition what it is today.
Lan Kwai Fong has spent decades perfecting the art of the big night out. Its compact streets bring restaurants, bars, clubs, music and people together in one buzzing neighbourhood, creating the kind of spontaneous atmosphere that is difficult to recreate elsewhere.
Check out this year’s LKF Monster Mash line up, including weekends of cosplay.
Whether you're here for the cocktails, the music, the people-watching or simply the chance to wear something completely outrageous, there's only one question left:
What are you going to be this Halloween?
