Junk season is finally here, are you ready for it?
Warmer weather means just one thing: it’s time to organise your very own boat party! However, it’s a lot trickier than it may seem, especially when you don’t know which companies to book from or what packages they offer. Whether it is your first time throwing this boozy get-together or you’re an expert who wants to switch things up, we’ve rounded up some of the best junk companies and all you need to know for an unforgettable boat trip!
Time is everything
From taking in the breathtaking skyline at night to soaking up the sun all day, when it comes to throwing your very own junk party, everything is possible. Although boats are available on every day of the week, the best time to throw your elegant soiree or rowdy festivities is on long weekends or public holidays. Knowing what time of day or night you want to throw your event is essential — while day trips last seven hours, night trips usually last four hours. Make sure you book your boat at least 1 to 2 months in advance. Prices can skyrocket for last-minute bookings!

The Ultimate Experience
Not all junks are created equally. For a cheap-as-chips options, rent the bare basics: literally just a boat, and you can BYOB and food. Or, if you’ve got the budget, you can book an all-inclusive — some even come inflatable beer pong tables, jetskies and hot-tubs!
One of our favourite junk companies is Lazydays, offering everything you need to set off into the sun. With karaoke, floating bean bags and an outdoor bar area, these boats (HK$14,000 – HK$30,000) come as decked out as you want them to be. Whether you want to stick to the basics with beer, prosecco and snacks (HK$14,550 – HK$33,950) or want a champagne fueled breakfast (HK$18,000 – HK$42,000), everything is possible. Looking to throw the most epic party of the year? Make sure you book on-board massages along with an inflatable lounge.
If that’s not extravagant enough for you, there’s always Hello Hong Kong. Although they offer plenty of unique boats, it’s the luxurious 47ft cruising sloop (HK$8,500 – HK$14,000) that truly stands out. Local Hero is the perfect option for an all-inclusive day trip with a decadent seafood lunch (with a surcharge of HK$250 per person for more than four people) or go on an overnight getaway (HK$22,000 with extra costs) with a group of friends.
Another popular junk company amongst party-goers is Yacht Holimood. With a range of beautiful boats, cruisers and yachts (HK$14,750 – HK$6,388), there are plenty of options to suit your needs. Create a memorable experience with floaties and an inflatable beer pong table, while the scrumptious bites and booze will keep you going.
Where to go
Although junks usually depart from Central, Causeway Bay and Aberdeen, once you sail into the open seas, it’s up to you to explore. If you’re not sure where to go, we’d say Sai Kung, Deep Water Bay, Turtle Cove, South Bay and Lamma are some of the best places to sail to.
Go Local
While there’s nothing wrong with getting your booze from Club 7/11 or even the local Park & Shop, a little extra effort here can go a long way. Leave the Budweiser to the amateurs, and show your friends you actually like them by loading up on locally brewed bevvies like Young Masters Ale, Gwei.Lo and Moonzen. Don’t like beer? Check out KWOON by The Woods for delicious canned cocktails, perfect for lazy junk days.

What could be better than indulging in Mexican fare? With plenty of catering options (HK$98 – HK$208 per person), you can soothe your cravings with some of the best burritos and quesadillas in town. But don’t forget to order churros for dessert!
